A SINKHOLE has caused a full cancellation of train services between Ayr and Kilmarnock, ScotRail has announced.

Urgent repairs are currently being carried out by ScotRail's engineers between Kilmarnock and Barassie, with disruption expected for at least three days until June 10, however ScotRail has warned it could take even longer.

A ScotRail statement said: "Our response team are working with the coal authority for this area, once once full assessment of the site has been carried out a plan will be put in place for repairs, therefore at present we have no estimate for the line reopening.

"As soon as we have more information we will let you know.

"Please note, services between Ayr and Girvan/Stranraer and between Glasgow Central and Kilmarnock in both directions will run as scheduled."

A replacement bus service is currently running instead.
