AYR'S Kayleigh Brown is ramping up her preparations for one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
Kayleigh is part of the Great Britain squad heading to the World Boccia Championships in Seoul from August 26-31.
She said: “My mindset going into Seoul is the same as any other competition. Yes, it’s different because it’s long-haul travel, a long time away from home and the food and the temperature is different but I’m still going to play the same game, with the same people.”
Last month, Kayleigh achieved a big career milestone by reaching the medal matches at a World Cup for the first time.
She said: “I’ve reached medal matches at the last three competitions – bronze at the Europeans, silver at an International Challenger and fourth at the Povoa World Cup last month.”
After last year’s European Championship, Kayleigh took time away from the court for maternity leave and she and husband Kevin, her sports assistant, welcomed baby Klay last October.
Kayleigh said: “This will be Klay’s first long-haul travel and first major time difference but he’s very good at adapting, so I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
She competes individually before joining David Smith OBE and Reshad Saraj in the BC1/2 Team event.
Before Kayleigh impressed on the boccia court, she set world records in frame-running over 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m and 5,000m; setting her first world record at the age of 12.
