THERE was a battle for bragging rights in Ayr this weekend as two of the towns top sports clubs faced off.
Ayr Cricket Club took on Ayr Rugby Club on Sunday as the two outfits looked to win the 'Pickles Cup'.
The now annual match, which the cricket club won last year, sees both clubs put forward a team to contest a 20-over cricket game.
Despite the odds it was the gents more used to using the oval shaped ball who came out on top in a thrilling last over victory this time around.
Batting first the cricketers struggled early on before the Baines brothers Jonny and Davy rescued the innings as they finished their 20 overs on 130.
The rugby club reply got off to a flying start. Useful knocks from new first XV captain Ed Bloodworth and captain for the day Lewis McNamara saw them in control.
Though as wickets began to fall the game became tight - only for Scott Clelland to stand up and see them over the winning line.
