WHITLETTS Victoria manager Brian Reid has departed the club just one day before the new season kicks off.

The New Voluntary Park club say that the boss has resigned after accepting an opportunity to return to senior football in the SPFL.

It ends a nine-month spell in the dugout for Reid who helped transform Whitletts fortunes last season.

Arriving in October last year, the former Ayr United manager came in with the Vics rooted to the bottom of the WoSFL First Division.

Having played 10 games in their 30 match campaign, the South Ayrshire outfit had just four points and were without a win when Reid was appointed following the departure of Graeme Neil.

The new boss would go on to accumulate 27 points from his 20 league games in charge, guiding Whitletts to a 12th placed finish in the 16 team league.

Though Whitletts will now need to build on this momentum with someone other than Reid in the dugout.

"I would like to thank the fans, the players, the chairman and the committee for their support during my time at Whitletts Vics," Reid commented after his departure.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and wish everyone connected with Whitletts Victoria FC every success for the season ahead."

A club statement added: "Everyone at Whitletts Victoria FC would like to thank Brian for his professionalism, commitment and hard work during his time at the club.

"We wish him every success in his new role and for the future in the SPFL."

The announcement, made on Friday, July 24, comes just one day before the new WoSFL season gets underway.

Whitletts, who remain in the First Division, are set to host Gartcairn in their opening fixture of the campaign.

The club has not confirmed who will be in the dugout for the fixture at this stage.
