AYR United have been awarded a 3-0 win for their Premier Sports Cup group stage match against Edinburgh City after their opponents fielded an ineligible player.

The Honest Men won the fixture 2-0 on Saturday, July 18, which means they now top the group with one game left to play.

However, Edinburgh City have now been sanctioned by the SPFL for the rules breach, meaning the final result will now be listed as 3-0 to the Somerset Park side.

Edinburgh City have also been fined £1,250, of which £750 is suspended until August 2027 pending any further breaches of SPFL Player Regulations.

Gary Naysmith's side take on Alloa Athletic at Somerset Park this weekend, knowing a win will mean they are all but seeded in the next round.
