AYR RFC had to battle from behind as they earned their second consecutive National Premiership title.
Grant Anderson's men were 41-27 winners at home to Currie Chieftains on Saturday in what proved to be a thrilling play-off final.
After securing a perfect 18 bonus point wins from 18 regular season matches, the Millbrae side were determined to end the campaign with silverware in hand yet again.
Captain Blair Macpherson - playing his last Premiership match - got that quest off to a perfect start as he crashed over and Chris Hyde added the conversion.
However, Currie were out to cause the upset and an unconverted Gregor Christie try brought the visitors back within two points.
They then raced 10-7 ahead as Ryan Stewart carried over to add a second try, which went unconverted on 21 minutes.
The first half remained back and forth and Ayr went back ahead just five minutes later with Alex McGuire bundling over before the conversion drifted wide.
Jamie Drummond extended the lead just after the half hour mark before Hyde added the extras to put the hosts 19-10 in front.
However, Currie were not to be counted out as Ryan Daley ran in at the corner to add a further five points right on the break.
The visitors then pulled ahead for a second time after the restart as Sam Cardosi went over out wide to make the score line 20-19.
But the joy was short-lived as Macpherson added his second of the match on 50 minutes and Hyde added the extras to make it 26-20.
Ayr really came to life after the hour mark with Jamie Shedden going over and another conversion was slotted.
Centre partner Robbie Orr then added another with 10 to play and though the conversion was missed, Ayr were 38-20 ahead.
Currie were not going to lie down, however, and Matthew Bradshaw gave the visitors renewed hope as he went over with eight minutes remaining - and the extras were added.
Ayr did not allow their opponents any further joy and Bobby Beattie wrapped up proceedings as he slotted a drop goal with the clock in the red, making the final score 41-27.
“I’ve been nervous since Tuesday," player of the match Jamie Shedden told BBC Alba. "You try not to show it, you try not to think about it.
“You know how great a side Currie are. They’ve been there for ages and the games we’ve played against them, they don’t give you an inch and they play for the 90 minutes.
“It’s been monumental, after 18 bonus point wins it would have feel like such a spoil to ruin it in the last game.
“I think we deserve it. The way we have played all year, even the games we have played bad we have always found a way to win. It means a lot to the boys.”
