South Ayrshire rugby sides end the year on a high note

Each of the region's clubs picked up impressive victories as they played their last fixtures of the calendar year on Saturday.

In the National Premiership, Ayr RFC kept their remarkable record going as they earned their 13th consecutive bonus point win.

The Millbrae outfit were 35-19 winners as they travelled to take on their closest challengers in Currie Chieftains.

Though the visitors certainly didn't have everything go their way as both teams battled testing conditions on Saturday.

It was Currie who got off to the better start, scoring twice to take a 12-0 lead before Blair MacPherson went over to claw Ayr within five.

The two teams would trade converted tries - with Fergus Johnston scoring for Ayr - before the half was out, leaving Ayr work to do in the final 40 minutes.

Grant Anderson's side more than delivered as Ryan Sweeney went over to give Ayr their first lead 15 minutes into the second period.

The visitors didn't look back after that with Bobby Beattie scoring the vital bonus point try before another score was added before the final whistle.

In National Division One, Marr RFC made it two wins on the bounce as they travelled to take on Biggar.

The Troon outfit were 24-12 winners as they climbed back into the league's top three places heading into 2026.

In West Division One, Carrick RFC enjoyed a superb weekend to draw out their year.

The Maybole side travelled to take on Annan on Saturday and came away with a hard-fought 27-20 victory.

In a tightly packed division, Carrick remain in second position though could climb to top spot if they were to win their game in hand.

The rugby season is now set for a brief break with sides to return to action on Saturday, January 10.
