A SOUTH Ayrshire rugby club has been honoured for its fantastic work in the community.
Carrick RFC took home the Community Club of the Season award for South Glasgow at Scottish Rugby's Community Recognition Awards at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
The club offers access to the sport across the rural communities of the Carrick region to those aged from five through to adult teams.
Linking with the South Ayrshire Active Schools team, the club delivers fun sessions across primary, ASN and secondary schools to more than 700 young people.
The club's one-to-one support for disengaged pupils project uses rugby as a tool to re-engage pupils who struggle to focus on school.
A community Ruck and Roast chatty space also runs alongside diversionary rugby, where members of the community can pop in to warm up with a cuppa and a chat.
Club volunteer Philip Porter said the award proves they are doing things the right way.
He said: "We as a club are always looking to do different things in the community for all age groups.
"We want to keep growing our younger sessions and get more players and their families tied into the club.
"This award is recognition for what we're doing, it was unexpected but shows we are going on the right path."
Philip said the club is looking forward to an even more successful 2025, as it continues its good work in the region.
He said: "We're getting bigger all the time with girls teams and youngsters can join the club from primary one.
"The club is always trying to strengthen its ties with the community, which is a big element of clubs down south."
