Prestwick ice skater Lewis Gibson took home silver at the European Figure Skating Championships over the weekend.

Lewis and long-term dance partner Lilah Fear won the silver medal for the second year running, with an overall total of 210.82 points.

The pair could not get the better of Italians Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri after some minor mistakes in their free dance to the music from Rocky.

Lewis and Lilah, who are six-times British champions, will now return to their training base in Montreal to prepare for the World Figure Skating Championships in March.

Gibson and Fear’s partnership began back in 2016 when they entered their first international competition that season.

Since then, the pair have become six-time Grand Prix medallists, five-time Challenger series gold medallists, the 2018 Bavarian Open champions, and six-time British national champions.

Gibson was among the high-profile Ayrshire names who lent their support - unsuccessfully - to efforts to save Ayr Ice Rink from the axe last year.

Gibson admitted he was "absolutely devastated" to hear the news of the rink's financial troubles, which led the facility's owners to decide to close the doors in the face of rising costs.

The 29-year-old took to Twitter to say the venue was was where his "dreams began".
