AYR United will be made to wait until Monday night until they know their Scottish Cup third round opponents.

Lee Bullen's side were paired with either West of Scotland Premiership side Pollok or League Two Annan Athletic when the third round draw was made on Monday afternoon.

They do, however, know that the tie will be played at Somerset Park, on the weekend of November 26.

Their prospective opponents will face off later tonight, at 7.45pm, on a match which will be broadcast live on the BBC Scotland channel.

And despite both sides playing in leagues below the Honest Men, Bullen will be well aware of the threat they possess.

Annan Athletic have already shown great cup pedigree this season, topping their League Cup group, which featured Ayr United.

Ayr travelled south for their group stage match, drawing 1-1 against ten men, before missing out on a bonus point in a penalty shoot-out.

And Annan also performed spectacularly well in this very competition only last year. They reached the fifth round stage, only being knocked out by eventual champions Rangers.

As for Pollok, while the two sides have no prior history, United know well the threat that can be posed by sides from the West of Scotland Football League ranks.

Back in 2019, a then high flying Ayr side travelled to Beechwood Park to face Auchinleck Talbot - and lost 1-0 in one of the biggest shocks of that season's third round.
