A FANTASTIC 2021/22 basketball season for Ayr Storm’s Alix McIntosh has reached a new high after the teenager was chosen to represent Great Britain at the European Championships.

The 15-year-old Prestwick Academy pupil was part of the Team GB under-16 squad who played seven matches in the Division B tournament in Montenegro from August 18-27.

The team missed out on the final after beating Romania, Ukraine and Iceland but losing to Slovakia, Luxembourg, Austria and the Netherlands.

The call-up came after Alix led Ayr Storm’s U16 squad to a national double and was a regular for the club’s under-18 and senior teams - while she also started all three of Scotland’s Home Nations internationals and travelled with the squad to Barcelona in June.

. The 15 year old, Prestwick Academy pupil, has had a year on the court that she will never forget.

As captain of her club’s U16 squad, she led her team to a National double, by winning both the League and Scottish Cup, remaining unbeaten in the process. Throughout the season she was also a key member of both the club’s U18 and Senior teams.

She also earned herself a Scotland call-up starting all three home nations games followed by a trip with the squad to Barcelona in June.

The icing on the cake was to follow as Alix was selected to the 12 woman squad to represent Great Britain at the European Championships (Division B) in Montenegro this month.

Ayr Storm’s club development officer and Alix’s club head coach, Laura Nisbet said: “Alix is a phenomenal athlete, with a tremendous work ethic. Everything that has come her way this year is nothing more than her dedication to her basketball deserves.

“Not to mention she’s a fantastic teammate, leader and role model to the other girls at our club. Everyone is so proud of her.”
