Troon boss Jimmy Kirkwood says his side were still in ‘control’ of the match despite a late scare, as they beat Rossvale 2-1 at the weekend.

Goals from Sam Jamieson and Dean Fulton had the seasiders in control of the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division match in the second period, after a goalless first half.

But the Vale fought back to grab a late goal through Conor MacDonald to set up a tense end to proceedings at Portland Park.

Despite the late strike the hosts saw the game through to get back to winning ways in the league.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Kirkwood said: “I think when they scored it was the only time our defence got anything wrong throughout the whole game.

“They just switched off and have not defended well from a long ball, the guy has just run through from one ball over the top. After that, even though it was late in the game, I did not feel there was any threat of conceding another goal.

“If anything, we looked like scoring again and we had two very good chances within the last couple of minutes.

“I did not feel we had to change, we were in control.”
