Troon manager Jimmy Kirkwood hailed Ben Black as one of Troon’s ‘best' ever signings as he netted in the 2-1 win over Largs Thistle at the weekend.

The winger signed for the Seasiders in the summer and has been in a great run of form of late grabbing goals and assists in regularity.

He started at the weekend against his former side Largs Thistle in the South Challenge Cup and quickly made an impact finding the back of the net early on.

Troon then doubled their advantage at Barrfields before the break as Tommy Maitland headed in Sam McCloskey’s corner.

Thistle then grabbed a goal back in the second period through Laurie McMaster, but the away side held on to progress.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Kirkwood said: “Ben has been a great signing for us and he is in really good form.

“He has been playing through a bit of an injury as well, so he has really been putting it in for us.

“His work rate is excellent but the quality that he brings is really a standout.

“He is a real key player for us and is probably one of the best signings we have ever made at this club.

“He is a real talent and at this level he is a standout.”
