Ayr Storm Basketball Club made their debut in the Scottish Basketball Championships last weekend against Tayside Musketeers.
New coach Hicham Guerss had a real baptism of fire as his young squad opened their season away to the Musketeers, who are one of the joint favourites in Division Two.
Off the tip, Ayr worked a play to free veteran Donald Sampley for a trademark three pointer, which goes into the club history as the first scorer at senior level.
Tayside soon came back with a three of their own and in an end to end period the home side took the quarter 26:10.
However, as the game progressed the Musketeers experience shown through alongside their strength in depth, as they took the win, 102:51.
Despite the opening day loss Guerss was impressed with his young sides showing.
He said: “This is a learning year for the players and the club, so I was really pleased with the effort they all put in.
“As we play more at this higher standard we will develop and improve as a squad.”
