LIVINGSTON are set to win the race to sign Ayr United winger Alan Forrest.

The 23-year-old is poised to pen a pre-contract deal with the West Lothian side ahead of joining next summer.

Dundee and Partick Thistle were also keen on Forrest, brother of Celtic star James, but the challenge of playing in the Premiership next season swung it Livi’s way.

Gary Holt’s side are sitting in the top six after a superb run of form, with their participation in the top flight all-but assured for next season.

So Forrest will remain with Ayr until the summer to help their play-off bid before moving at the end of the season.

Forrest came through the youth ranks at Somerset Park and has only ever played for the Honest Men.

During his time at the club, the winger has made 238 appearances in all competitions, scoring 53 goals in the process.
