AYR Storm U16men, led by Coach Danny Gibbons were invited to the University of Glasgow holiday basketball tournament - and great fun was had by all, as well as great preparation for the resumption of Scottish Basketball Championship basketball this weekend when the team are away in Edinburgh

The GU tournament was a group stage to decide seedings for the knockout games, leading to the final. In the opening group stage game with the GU Cubs, Ayr led by as much as 8 before the home side took the lead in the closing minutes.

However, a buzzer beater shot from Charlie Dorward took the game into overtime, where Storm took the early lead then held on with great defence on the last play.

Next up were Glasgow Rens and the Ayr boys (div2 SBC side) pushed the SBC div1 side close in a game both sides found their shooting form, but the Glasgow side closed the game out well. FT: Rens 56 Storm 50

The knockout phase saw Ayr face Glasgow Rocks - and everything clicked for the Ayr boys and they dominated all four periods to power into the final.

In the rest period before the final all four teams had to nominate three players to take part in a 3pt shoot out. Liam Morris, Charlie Dorward and Jackson Tindle were put forward by their team-mates and performed well.

The top four of the 12 players went into the final - and two of the four were Ayr’s Jackson and Charlie. A tight final saw Jackson tie with a Cub player - and then Jackson win the play-off and take the 3pt shot competition prize.

Onto the final and a rematch with the Rens. P1 was tough but a fight back in P2 meant Storm trailed by just 6pts at the break. The squad played some great basketball in the 2nd half, but Rens were just too big and strong and they won the tournament Cup.
