EXPERIENCED Ayr United midfielder Jamie Adams has been forced to hang up his boots.

The club confirmed today that he has retired from football due to injury.

Jamie, who has made 104 appearances for the Honest Men over the last four and a half seasons, last featured for United at the end of August but has succumbed to the knee injury that saw him miss much of last season.

After starting his career at Kilmarnock, Jamie was forced to endure two years out of the game due to serious injury following his departure from St Johnstone in 2012 but returned to action in 2014 with South of Scotland League side Wigtown & Bladnoch, close to the family farm near Stranraer.

That attracted the attention of Ian McCall, who had previously signed Jamie on loan from Killie while at Partick Thistle and Queen of the South, and handed Jamie an initial six month deal in July 2015.

A hugely important member of McCall’s teams that twice won promotion to the Championship, Jamie became a cult figure amongst United supporters for his no-nonsense approach to the game.

Manager Mark Kerr said :”Jamie has been a fantastic team mate since I signed for the club and as manager he is a player I would have loved to have had available to me but sadly that hasn’t been able to happen.

He needs to do what is best for himself and his family now and he will always be welcome at Somerset Park.
