SUNDAY saw Ayr United Women’s team travelled to the Grange Academy in Kilmarnock to take on Kilmarnock 23s in Scottish Women’s Football League One (South) writes Stewart McConnell.

Kilmarnock took the lead after just two minutes but this spurred Ayr into action as they then drew level just two minutes later thanks to striker Rachel Scott dipping the ball high into the Kilmarnock net. Nearing the end of the first half, a well taken Nicola Fisher corner was met by the head of Rachel Scott.

A more dominant display from Ayr United in the second half sealed the win, as captain Jodie Barbour capitalised on a Kilmarnock goalkeeping error, to determinedly send the ball low into the left hand corner. This is the second win on the bounce for our women’s team. Player’s Player of the Match: Nikki Evans.

Saturday saw United 15s host Glenburn Miners in the Christie Murray League. They won 10-1 with Sophie Ross and Kimberley Clark each bagging hat-tricks, Halle Arnott netting a double and Libby McLeay and Breegan Mullen also on target. Sunday saw Ayr United U9s girls travel to Irvine Sports Club for the South West Festival. In better conditions, after all the recent heavy rain, the girls enjoyed matches against Clark Drive, Kilwinning Rangers, Cambusdoon and Glenburn Miners.

The U11s took part in the South West Festival at Irvine Sports Club. They took on Cumnock and went down 1-0 and they also lost to Clark Drive and Kilmarnock before beating local rivals Cambusdoon. Ayr United U13s Girls faced Galston YFC on Thursday in a rearranged Erin Cuthbert League fixture They won 3-1 with a double from Karlii Kennedy and an own goal.
