A TRIP to Wales is on the cards for Ayr United.

They head to the Principality to face National League side Wrexham in the Third Round of the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

The tie  is scheduled for September 8 or 9.

Ian McCall's side will be hoping to improve on their poor recent record in this cup competition.

However they are have enjoyed many good runs in national events and will be hoping to see off their hosts.

Boss Ian McCall is relishing the tie and said:

It will be a great experience to go down there and Wrexham are a club with good pedigree.

"I well remember Micky Thomas scoring that famous goal for them against Arsenal 20-odd years ago. They'll have a good stadium and it we'll go down there and look to do ourselves proud."

United are out of action this weekend as they are out of the Betfred Cup.

However they are training as usual this week and next in preparation for the home league clash with Queen of the South a week on Saturday.
