PROLIFIC Ayr United striker Michael Moffat is closing in on a century of Somerset Park goals.

The target man is now on 95 career goals with the Honest Men after netting in the 4-2 home triumph against Greenock Morton and now he hopes to hit the magical milestone.

Now in his second spell at Somerset Park, Moffat said: “It would be a wonderful achievement to reach 100 goals, hopefully I can keep it up, we can create lots of chances and I will get on the end of a few.”

He was impressed with the supporting cast and added: “Alan Forrest and Luke McCowan linked up well.

“When Alan is on his game, he’s different class. We changed the formation and it worked. We enjoyed the performance, created lots of chances and could have had seven or eight. But we switched off and were punished.

“Now we can go to Dundee on Saturday with plenty of confidence and hopefully can take something on the road.”

Boss Ian McCall feels Ayr could have had a much easier win.

He said: “We defended well then Ross Doohan made a mistake and I forgive him completely, had he caught it we would have won comfortably. Some of the football we played was a joy to watch and some of the young players are fabulous. Forrest was outstanding, Steven Kelly is a very special footballer, Moffat was absolutely terrific. It will be hard when we go to Cappielow.”
