SPFL Reserve League Two
 AYR UNITED 5
RAITH ROVERS 0

by Karen Malcolm

MONDAY saw Ayr United Reserves welcome Raith Rovers to Townhead Park, Cumnock for this home league fixture.

United came into the game on the back of a 1-1 draw with Albion Rovers last week while Raith Rovers had seized all three points in a 2-1 win over East Kilbride.
It only took Ayr United six minutes to take the lead with Mark McKenzie firing home.

Ayr increased their lead 37 minutes later with an exquisite finish from Kieran McLaughlin making it 2 – 0 for the Honest Men

United were well on top in the opening 45 minutes with Raith Rovers only creatinga couple of half chances, and Ayr went in at half-time with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

After the teams came back out for the second half, it only took two minutes for Ayr to score again, this time the scorer was James Hilton after he intercepted the ball on the edge of the box and fired home, making it 3-0

In 75 minutes,  Leon Murphy placed the ball into the bottom corner to give Ayr a comfortable four-goal lead which ensured that there was to be no ‘roaring back’ for this Raith Rovers side.

Nine minutes later, a Luke McCowan shot from the edge of the box found the back of the net to seal an emphatic and dominant 5 – 0 victory for Ayr United

After the result, Ayr United lie second in the SPFL Reserve League 2 with 29 points, having played 13 games. Raith Rovers are 7th with 10 points after 15 games,
