Macron Scottish Junior Cup Fifth Round

GIRVAN 1

CLYDEBANK 7

HISTORY had been made by Girvan FC when they reached the dizzy heights of the last 16 of the national competition for the first time in their history.

However they came crashing back down to earth with a bang as they went down heavily to favoured Premier Division team Bankies at Hamilton Park.

It was a demoralising afternoon for the Seasiders who finally got this game played after three postponements and some rustiness was in evidence.

They got off to the worst possible start in eight minutes when the ball was lost in midfield and Little drove in to the box and into the bottom corner of the net. Just two minutes later, corner from the right was headed home by the same player. Then in 23 minutes,, Alexander found the goal with a curling shot from the coner of the 18-yard box, Two minutes later Girvan pulled a goal back when Craig Harvey beat a couple of defenders to find Mitchell who fired the ball past the keeper from 16 yards. In

n 50 minutes home goalie Ally McInnes made a fine save from a one-on-one.

However only a minute later Jordan Shelvey scored with a free header six yards out. In 70 minutes a great run through midfield from Hepburn then found the net with his shot. In 76 minutes a 50-50 decision went Clydebank’s way when they got awarded a penalty and Hepburn scored from the spot. Four minutes later Fitpatrick scored from close in.
