DISAPPOINTED Ayr United boss Ian McCall said poor defending played a big part in their 4-0 defeat to hosts Rangers in last night's Betfred Cup quarter-final at Ibrox.
But he admitted Steven Gerrard's side were worthy winners.McCall said: "We felt three of the goals were really cheap goals. For the first one Michael (Rose) should have done better, the second was really poor from us, the fourth was a good one but the third goal wasn't even a good set play, so that was disappointing from our point of view."I thought 4-0 was a fair reflection on the game, it was hard for us. We played okay. I felt it was a pretty clear penalty (when Alan Forrest was brought down by Jonathan Flanagan). Bobby Madden, the referee said he will phone us to apologise. If it had gone to 1-1 we might have lost 4-1."He was heartened with the support given by the visiting fans and added: "We were pleased with the crowd, the higher the better in terms of us getting some finance."United are now focusing their attention on Saturday's visit to Cappielow to face Morton. He said: "We want to stay top of the league, we are very proud of being to and want to stay there."
