West of Scotland Youth League

Age 14s

THIS was the first ever Troon derby to be played at Portland Park at the 2004s age group level.

Newly formed Troon FC playing in blue and white under the umbrella of Troon Juniors and long, established Troon Thistle in their distinctive red and white colours.

Troon looking a little nervous early on as Thistle broke the lines easily and would have taken an early lead if it wasn’t for a smart save by Troon goalie Arran McLean.

After that Troon took control where the whole team from goalkeeper to striker played as a solid unit, where great work from Troon front three saw striker Josh Prentice score the opener and midfielder Lewis Foy the netted with a stunning shot from outside the box.

Thistle continued pressing with some great moves up the pitch. They broke the Troon line and was almost one-on-one with the Troon goalie until left-back Cameron Hunter charged across from the left hand side to make a perfectly-timed tackle to deny Thistle a scoring chance.

The first half concluded with Troon striker Dylan McDougal scoring a blinder of a goal from 18 yards.

After some even opening exchanges in the second half, the Troon players started to outpace Thistle and it wasn’t long before they added two more goals from midfielders Lewis Martin and Lewis Foy.

Thistle continued to play some good football, however Prentice scored again to make it 6-0.

Troon were later awarded a penalty after the Thistle goalie brought down a Troon player in the box and were awarded a penalty, which was converted by centre-half Finn Mullen. During the last 15 minutes Thistle continued to press harder and to their credit, took advantage of a now tired Troon back line. Thistle were awarded a penalty for a handball in the box and striker Ben Young netted from the spot, making the final score 7-1.

Troon midfielder Lewis Foy won the man-of-the-match award after a great performance.

A good number of spectators turned out for the match.

A special thanks goes to the Troon FC owners for allowing the lads to play the derby at Portland Park.
