DEFIANT Troon FC boss Gordon Burns is still confident his side can survive in the McBookie Super Premier Division, despite slumping to a sixth straight defeat.

The Seasiders went down 4-2 at home to Cumnock, seven days after a 3-1 loss against Beith at Bellsdale Park.

Burns is warning his team face a relegation dogfight as they remain in third bottom spot, with Largs Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers still below them.

However they have just seven games remaining and victories are needed soon, the boss insists as Pollok head to Portland Park for an important league match on Saturday.

Burns was disappointed in the manner in which his side lost the match and said: "It was like last week against Beith. We took the lead and started very strongly. But we then lost a goal just before half-time and another one shortly after the break. Cumnock's third goal was a wonder goal. Then we got back into the match with another goal but unfortunately conceded one just after that."

The boss is unhappy with his side's form slump which has come a season after they finished fourth in the Premier Division but says selection problems have been a factor.

He added: "We have not had a settled side, with players missing through work commitments and things like weddings and stag do's and that has made it difficult for us.

"We are on a bad run but we every game is now a cup final and I am hopeful that we can still stay up as we have most of the same squad who did well last season and have added others."

Burns is savouring Saturday's clash with Pollok and said: "It's a very important game for us, it's at home and we must look to take the three points. All the games are like a cup final and we have to start picking up some wins. We will have to show some fight, roll up our sleeves and work really hard. Hopefully we will get a good support."

The boss has a full squad to choose from, apart from Jordan Muir, who is suspended and Dale Keenan is sidelined for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.
