A SINGLE dad who has been diagnosed with inoperable oesophageal cancer has been told he might never eat again.

Donald Stewart has been unable to eat solid food for five months after losing his ability to swallow, the Daily Record reports.

Donald, who is from Glasgow, was eating a takeaway in October last year when he realised food was getting stuck in his throat.

The 44-year-old thought he just needed to eat slower, but the problem got worse and he was soon only able to eat soft or mashed food.

Sadly, father-of-two Donald was diagnosed with stage three oesophageal cancer in January after medics found a 20cm tumour in his food pipe.

He told the Daily Record: "The doctors told me it was serious as soon as they checked my throat with a camera.

"They didn't even need to do a biopsy. I was told I needed to prepare myself.

"There's a 20% chance that patients with oesophageal cancer survive past five years and it's inoperable."

Since his diagnosis, Donald has been undergoing four rounds of chemotherapy, one round of radiotherapy and has been fitted with a feeding machine that fills his stomach.

He said: "The feeding machine will be permanent as most likely my swallowing capacity won't come back.

"I'm at the stage where it's difficult to even get saliva down so I don't know what it's going to be like if my oesophagus completely closes due to scaring."

Now, Donald has set up a GoFundMe, which has so far raised £860, so he can take his daughters on a family holiday.

He wrote: "I want to try and go somewhere and create a memory with them and should the worst happen, I want there to be enough for them all to travel back a year later.

"I want to do one last thing with my kids, something that they will remember forever."
