THE new BBC Scotland channel aired for the first time last night, attracting a mixed reaction from viewers.
Our sister title The Herald's own Alison Rowat described the channel's premiere as "Hogmanay TV on a Sunday in February".
BBC Scotland director Donalda MacKinnon predicted the new television channel would be a success over time.
As the channel aired its first night, viewers gave the channel a lukewarm reception on social media.
Some agreed that the channel needs time to find its feet.
Totally agree with @alisonmrowat on #BBCScotland launch night schedule. Relentless gallusness of Peoples News offset by withering cynicism of Burnistoun isn't much of a mix. And why was the excellent documentary @naepasaran shown so late? Still, early days https://t.co/jgUGAcRzUS

While others suggested it launched with a whimper instead of a bang.
it was mince and astonishing that well payed people had spent a long time planning the event The People’s News reminded me of the queue for the last bus home from George Square but without the humour Another @BBCScotland #Fail

Others found its output Glasgow-centric and "condescending".
10.00:A live concert.

It’s rather odd that they’ve chosen to launch the channel with an edition of f*cking Crackerjack that’s pretending it’s live when it clearly isn’t.
This new channel could be excellent. But it needs to feel as though it’s taking itself seriously. (2/2)
Well judging by the reaction to the New BBC Scotland channel, is dated and condescending. Just your average BBC's take on Scotland. Just think of all that talent we have here in Scotland having to go elsewhere. #BBCScotland

To the surprise of nobody, the new BBC Scotland channel is cheap, outdated, twee, patronising and defines Scotland as Glasgow.

But some say the real test will be when the channel's flagship news programmes airs tonight.
The real test of the new @BBCScotland channel isn’t some daft theatre show, it’s the Scottish Six - tonight at Nine.
