Plans to move the Troon Early Years Centre into the town's former library were given the green light by councillors back in October 2023.
The library on South Beach has since moved across the road to the Municipal Buildings under the plans and opened in July last year.
Members of South Ayrshire Council agreed the proposal back in 2023 following a public engagement exercise.
The authority's Labour group has wanted to delay a decision, arguing that the best place for the EYC would be at Troon Primary School.
However, the move went ahead and work was originally set to be completed this autumn.
However, the council has now confirmed that the completion date has been pushed back to January next year.
A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said: “Refurbishment works at the new Troon Early Years Centre are progressing well, however, further delays experienced with the complexity of the works and availability of materials have pushed the anticipated project completion date to January 2027.”
