CONTROVERSIAL 20mph speed limits could be coming to Ayr, Prestwick and Troon in the near future.

The three towns will form part of the next phase of the speed restriction rollout across South Ayrshire.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) has already introduced 20mph limits in Girvan, and work is ongoing to bring similar restrictions to Coylton, Barr, Maybole and Pinmore.

In an update to the Ayrshire Shared Services Joint Committee, ARA confirmed that Ayr, Troon and Prestwick could follow in the next phase of the scheme.

However, further details on which roads are set to be involved have not yet been revealed.

The latest restrictions in villages, including Maybole, are set to be completed early next year.
