Search the Public Notice PortalAYR Rugby Club is celebrating a double win after its plans for a revamped clubhouse were approved alongside a £200,000 funding boost.
The club is set to receive the six-figure sum from sportscotland's Sport Facilities Fund, as it gets to work on the third phase of redevelopment at its Millbrae home.
The funding boost will go towards the cost of a new gym for the club's youth and adult sections, as well as upgrading four changing rooms to make them accessible.
The thriving club has already installed a brand new 3G pitch and access road to the site, which has helped to boost participation by 800 per cent.
Brian Williamson, chairman, said: “Ayr RFC is delighted to receive £200,000 from the sportscotland Sports Facilities Fund.
"The club recently completed a £3 million project which included a new vehicular and pedestrian access and a multi-sport 3G pitch with floodlighting.
“This has made our ground accessible for all and hugely increased participation in our sporting and community events.
“This award will help us construct a high performance strength and conditioning gym and upgrade our changing facilities.
"I would like to thank sportscotland for recognising the importance of our project and for their help and guidance over the past three years.”
In the same week, South Ayrshire Council also approved the club's revamped plans for its clubhouse.
The proposals also include general internal and external alterations to the Millbrae clubhouse, with a strength and conditioning gym as the focus.
The plans represent an overall increase in area of the existing clubhouse of 288sqm. Much of the works at Millbrae so far have been made possible through a £3 million Macdonald Legacy Award.
The works include a gym extension, upgrading of toilets, new changing rooms, refurbishments to the bar, lounge and function area, and new energy-efficient heating and lighting.
Approving the plans, council officials said: “The proposals are considered to improve and make a positive contribution to existing amenities which enhance the existing sport and leisure facilities at the locale and ensure the continued use of the clubhouse and associated grounds for the benefit of the wider community.”
