A NEW book detailing some of South Ayrshire's finest houses, castles and mansions has been released.
'The Country Houses, Castle and Mansions of South Ayrshire' contains a history of the area's architectural heritage and is packed with fantastic old photographs.
Although not comprehensive, about 95 houses are featured, alphabetically, from Adamton House to Underwood in Symington.
Some properties are intact and well-known such as Culzean. Some have been lost entirely, some are in ruins and some face an uncertain future, or a combination of these.
Coodham, at Symington, lay empty for some years before being converted by a developer, and Carnell and Blairquhan have become hospitality venues.
The origins, owners and history of each and their fate today are given in lengthy fact-filled captions accompanied by period photographs.
The book is 128 pages long and contains 152 illustrations.
It can be purchased for £21.95 from Stenlake Publishing Limited in Catrine, by calling 01290 551122 or emailing sales@stenlake.co.uk.
