TRIBUTES have been paid to Scottish rugby legend Ian McLauchlan OBE following his death at the age of 83.
McLauchlan, known as 'Mighty Mouse', was born in Tarbolton and attended nearby Ayr Academy.
He captained Scotland on 19 occasions and cemented his place as one of British rugby’s all-time greats by becoming one of only five players to feature in all eight Test matches for the British and Irish Lions on their victorious tours to New Zealand in 1971 and South Africa in 1974.
He was inducted into Scottish Rugby’s Hall of Fame in 2013, and in 2017, he was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List.
His former Scotland and Lions teammate Andy Irvine said: "He was some character and some player.
"He was smaller than most props he came up against but I never saw anyone get the better of him.
"He was so tough, almost indestructible. What a fantastic career he had for Scotland, and the Lions; it’s very, very sad."
Scottish Rugby extended its "sincere condolences to Ian McLauchlan’s family and many friends" and said details of his funeral service would be shared in due course.
