A BOOK by an Ayrshire author about why ordinary people kill has become a bestseller.
Dr Aaron Mullins, from Monkton, released "Scottish Killers: 25 True Crime Stories," which has topped Amazon's true crime charts this week.
The book delves into the hidden motives behind some of Scotland's most notorious true crimes.
Aaron, an award-winning psychologist, said: "When I first started writing this book, I didn't anticipate the emotional rollercoaster it would become.
"As a psychologist, I spent years exploring the intricacies of the human mind, but nothing quite prepared me for the emotional depths of these stories."
Dr Mullins was particularly thrilled to see his book alongside another Ayrshire author, Douglas Skelton, in the bestseller charts.
He said: "Douglas has been longlisted for the McIlvanney Prize five times, which is presented by Bloody Scotland for the best Scottish crime book of the year.
"When you look at the success of Ayr Writers Club members too, and authors like Michael J Malone, you can see how much talent there is on the west coast."
Dr Mullins' latest book is over 300 pages long, with 50 chapters exploring the psychology behind the crimes of 25 famous Scottish killers.
Some of the killers revisited from Dr Mullins' perspective include Dennis Nilsen, Peter Tobin, Archibald Hall, and Ian Brady.
Dr Mullins said: "I didn’t write this book solely for entertainment or shock value, though if it keeps you hooked into the wee hours, I’ll consider that a win.
"What I really wanted was to uncover answers to the difficult questions we have about murder.
"This book isn't for the faint-hearted. The stories are raw, unfiltered, and, at times, deeply unsettling. But they are real.
"They happened. And I believe they deserve to be told with honesty and respect.
"Not just to understand why these murders occurred, but to learn how we can prevent them in the future."
