THIS year's Carrick Festival of Light will mark a special 20th anniversary of the popular event.
Every year, the lantern procession flows through the streets of Girvan to the sounds of Samba, after locals spend weeks creating their lanterns.
The event is run by CRAG Community Arts and workshops for the lantern procession are already under way.
The theme of this year's parade is 'The Bogles Ball', and participants can expect ghosts and goblins to feature large.
A spokesperson said: "Each lantern is hand built from willow with a covering of tissue paper and glue to make it weather resistant with a candle inside to illuminate the lantern.
"It is a magical event, one that brings smiles to folk of all ages as the drums ring out across the town and the parade of lantern makers and their families wind their magical way from Piedmont Road to the shorefront.
"It is the finale performance that brings the six-week project, arguably one of Scotland’s biggest community arts projects, to a close."
CRAG lantern workshops take place every Saturday until October 26 in the Wee School Artspace on Henrietta Street from 10am till 5pm.
There will be also be lantern workshops in the Carrick Centre Maybole, Wee School Artspace and Girvan Library during the school holidays.
The River of Light lantern procession takes place on October 27, and all workshops are free although donations are always welcome.
