Trump Turnberry is set to become the most expensive course in the UK for a round of golf.
The course is planning to introduce a green fee of up to £1,000 at specific times of the day from June next year.
The fee will apply to golfers wanting to start before 1pm, and who are not staying at the associated resort and spa.
The South Ayrshire five-star resort says the move is being implemented to protect key tee times for members and staying guests.
General Manager Nic Oldham told Bunkered golf magazine: "Staying in the hotel and playing the Ailsa will come in some way under £1,000, so it’s better value to do it that way.
"That’s better for the golfer, because they’re getting a full five-star experience, but it’s also better for Turnberry.
“We are unique amongst venues that have hosted The Open in that we are a complete resort and, therefore, we need to make sure all parts of our business are viable.
"Simply selling rounds of golf isn’t a sustainable business model.”
Trump Turnberry is celebrated as one of the world's best golf courses, and has hosted the prestigious Open Championship four times.
Former US President Donald Trump took over the resort in 2014.
Prior to its reopening in 2016, the famous Ailsa course could be played for around £150.
Lowe rgreen fees are still available at other times of the day, starting at around £550.
