WORKS will start soon on removing redundant signs and equipment from the latest bank branch to shut in Ayr.
The Barclays branch in the High Street closed its doors to customers for the final time on Friday, May 10 due to dwindling footfall.
Proposals had been lodged by the banking giant to remove all signage as well as the ATM machine from the building.
The works have now been given the green light by South Ayrshire Council officials, with the work to be carried out in an "appropriate manner".
Planning documents state: "With regard to the removal of the signage, it is intended to attach a condition in respect of any required repair works to ensure that these are carried out in an appropriate manner.
"There are no concerns arising from the re-glazing of the window opening following the removal of the ATM.
"There are no policy objections to the proposals, and it is considered that the alterations to the building will not adversely affect the character or setting of Ayr Central Conservation Area."
