AN AYRSHIRE bus firm has been named ‘operator of the year’ at an annual company awards scheme.
Stagecoach West Scotland won the ‘best operating company’ accolade at the transport group’s Christopher Ball Memorial Awards.
The firm’s West Scotland operation employs 946 drivers at depots in Ardrossan, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Arran, Dumfries, Stranraer and Cumbernauld, where it has a fleet of 322 buses and coaches.
The Christopher Ball Memorial Awards are awarded to the best performing eco-driving depot and individual within Stagecoach’s UK bus operations.
Christiopher, who died in 2014, introduced GreenRoad eco-driving technology across Stagecoach’s UK operations.
Fiona Doherty, managing director of Stagecoach West Scotland, said: “I’m delighted that our West Scotland team has won the prestigious 'Best Operating Company' award in the UK for the first time.
“This recognition is a well-deserved boost for the team, who have consistently gone above and beyond to achieve high performance in terms of safer, smoother, and more fuel-efficient driving on every journey they make.”
Using a traffic-light LED system on each vehicle’s dashboard, the GreenRoad system gives drivers instant feedback on their driving manoeuvres, encouraging smoother, safer, and more fuel-efficient driving.
