Balgarth Pines Choir entertain locals at D-Day celebration

The Balgarth Pines Choir members were delighted to perform at a special evening in the function room at the Doonfoot premises.

And the event was a sell out, supported by local customers in the venue's function room.

Customers enjoyed a tasty spread of food from the WW11 era, enjoying selection of sandwiches, chicken and steak pies, spam fritters followed by delicious scones and cakes with tea and coffee. Boiled sweeties and treats were also available..

Balgarth events manager Melanie Walker, who came up with the idea of forming the choir, said after the event: "I have been overwhelmed by the support and commitment shown by all the members.

"Singing and music brings so much joy and the choir is part of our community.

"The Balgarth Choir members are so incredibly dedicated and meet fortnightly on a Monday evening at 7.30pm.

"We were so lucky that choir leader Beatrice Clark agreed to this role and came up with the idea to commemorate this historical date.

"Special thanks to Ken Muir and Terry Wright, volunteers from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission who kindly joined us on the evening, talked about their roles and enthralled the audience taking us through to the lighting of the beacon when everyone paid respects with a minute's silence."

She added: " Thanks to John Webster, Scottish Military Motor Vehicle group, who kindly brought along a WW2 truck and NRAOD pupil Sophia Walker who performed a tap dance to kick start the evening.

"Huge thanks to each member of the choir and choir leader Beatrice Clark and all the staff members who contributed to a very successful and poignant event."

New members are welcome to join the choir.
