Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with assault following a disturbance at a shop in Ayr which was filmed and shared online.

One 16-year-old was also charged with possessing a weapon and vandalism while the other  teenaged, also aged 16, was also charged with threatening and abusive behaviour.

Ayr Local, in the town's High Street, posted footage online showing a group of youths in front of the shop with a staff member at the front door. 

Police have now confirmed that two teenagers have been arrested and charged over the incident on Wednesday, May 22.

They were due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court this week. Police are continuing their probe into the incident. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 7.40pm on Wednesday, May 22 we were called to a report of a disturbance within business premises in High Street, Ayr.

“Officers attended and the youths had left the premises.  

"A 16-year-old male youth was later arrested and charged in connection with possession of an offensive weapon, assault and vandalism and was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 23. 

"Another 16-year-old male youth was later arrested and charged in connection with assault and threatening and abusive behaviour and is due to appear in court at a later date."
