A brand new fish and chip shop is set to open on Ayr seafront later this month.

Reel Plaice, on Bath Plaice, is the brainchild of Jo Goudie, who ran popular chippy The Plaice to Be in Kilmarnock for many years.

The award-winning chippy even welcomed Andi Peters from Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, with the shop and its customers featuring on the show live.

Jo's new venture will be opening on Friday, May 31, and she admits it is a dream come true after seven months of bringing the project together.

She said: "I'd just like to say that I’d never ever thought I’d be here. It was all a dream with so many hurdles in front of me and I can’t believe my dream is a reality.

"Seven months I’ve dedicated to this every single day. It's been blood, sweat and so many tears.

"I couldn’t have made it if it wasn't for my amazing family, friends and my partner Gary who has seen me at my worst."

Reel Plaice will open on the site of the former Waverley Cafe in the heart of the town's seafront.
