A new comedy musical reflecting the diverse experiences of lockdown is coming to Ayr's Gaiety Theatre this summer.

The Bunker, directed by Jack Nurse, has been created in collaboration with members of the local community, who will also take to the stage for the show alongside the professional cast.

The Wonder Fools original production follows four strangers who gather in a bunker to spend lockdown together.

Their disagreements and different worldviews provide plenty of laughs whilst their individual stories, inspired by conversations with local people in South Ayrshire, explore themes around isolation, grief, and a yearning for connection.

Songs from artists such as The Clash, Rod Stewart and Dua Lipa will be performed live by a professional cast joined onstage by 50 community performers.

This new co-production with The Gaiety has been commissioned by Greenspace as part of the Covid memorial project ‘Remembering Together’.

Director Jack is a co-founder of Wonder Fools alongside Robbie Gordon and both of them, are no strangers to the Gaiety.

Jack is currently creative engagement director at the Ayr theatre, artist in residence (Creative Development) at the Traverse Theatre and artistic lead of the international participatory project Positive Stories for Negative Times.

Robbie trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland graduating in 2016. He is formerly the creative engagement director at the Gaiety and the Traverse Theatre.

You can catch the show on June 26 at the Gaiety. Check their box office for ticket details.
