Works are set to start on the relocation of the library service in Girvan.

The public facility is being moved from its current home on Montgomerie Street to the ground floor of 17-19 Knockcushan Street, which once housed the local authority's housing office and customer service centre.

Internal alterations are now set to take place inside the building, with works also taking place in the rear car park.

A South Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "We’ve appointed a contractor to carry out the internal fit out of 17-19 Knockcushan Street to facilitate the relocation of the library service in Girvan.

2In addition to the internal alterations, the works will include enhancements to the rear carpark to allow this to be used as a flexible events space for the community.

"Our contractor is due to start at the end of May, and the building and car park will be closed to the public during this time. We’ll keep you updated on the progress of these works."

The upper floor of the property will remain as office space for South Ayrshire Council.
