Tributes have been paid to a Carrick stalwart and Ayrshire businessman after his sudden death at the age of 72.

Duncan 'Fred' Hamilton, a former garage boss with Hamilton Bros, died in Kirkoswald on Wednesday, April 3.

The father of two, and proud owner of Jack Russell Max, died peacefully at his home, Old Hall on the village's Main Road, following a heart-related illness.

Friends and family are set to attend his funeral at Masonhill Crematorium in Ayr on Wednesday May 8 at 4.15pm.

There will be a retiral collection in aid of the Retraining of Racehorses charity.

His son, Advertiser court reporter Andy Hamilton, thanked emergency services, family and friends for their kindness and support after the unexpected death.   

Fred is survived by sons Duncan and Andrew Hamilton, as well as beloved dog Max.
