Works to upgrade the area around Stumpy Corner in Girvan have started this week.

The works, taking place in the town centre, will include the renewal & replacement of the hard landscaping and street furniture.

The area will be closed to the public until the works are complete, with South Ayrshire Council keeping locals updated with progress.

The square sits beneath Girvan’s Stumpy Tower, known as ‘Auld Stumpy’, which is what remains of Girvan’s courthouse and jail.

It was built in the 1920s, and is now the town’s most prominent landmark.
