South Ayrshire Council has provided an update on the progress of two major housing developments in Ayr.

The local authority has confirmed that works are on schedule at the Mainholm housing development and on the site of the town's old high flats.

A total of 160 new affordable homes are being built on the site of the former Mainholm Academy site, with a mix of one, two, three, four, five and six bedroom properties.

The new homes will be available to rent, will be energy efficient, and some will be modified to ensure they have full wheelchair access.

A council spokesperson said: "Works continue at the Mainholm housing development. Progress has been good to date, with utilities being fitted and scaffolding removed from completed housing.

"The precast stairs have been installed at the flats and work to fit kitchens continues."

Meanwhile, 75 new homes are being built in the heart of Ayr, with affordable flats built on the site of two former tower blocks.

Ashleigh Scotland Ltd, who were appointed by hub South West Scotland will build 43, one bedroom properties and 32, two bedroom properties at the site.

The project, which will cost around £17.2m including a £6.7m contribution from the Scottish Government, is set to be completed in May 2025.

A council spokesperson added: "At the Riverside housing project, steelwork will be finished over the coming weeks and timber kits will start to appear on site."
