More than 1,000 illegal vapes have been seized and destroyed in South Ayrshire.

A total of 1,353 units were seized by South Ayrshire Council's trading standards team from businesses in the region.

These illegal single use vapes contained nicotine containing liquid in excess of the permitted maximum 2ml capacity.

A number of test purchasing exercises were also carried out in the region, with ten premises passing the test.

A council spokesperson said: "Not only do trading standards seize illegal vapes, they also carry out test purchasing exercises on shops to see if they sell tobacco or vapes to underage persons.

"Ten premises were recently visited by a 17-year-old youth volunteer and none of them sold the age-restricted tobacco/vape product.

"Trading standards will continue to actively enforce the legislation surrounding single use vapes and other tobacco products."
