The historic Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has been confirmed for The International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight this September.

The Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster aircraft will take to the skies above South Ayrshire to commemorate those who have lost their lives serving in the RAF, or its predecessor the Royal Flying Corps, in all conflicts from 1914 up to the present day.

Based at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire, the BBMF fleet of World War Two aircraft is preserved in flying condition as a living tribute to them, to promote the modern-day Air Force and to inspire future generations.

The BBMF will display on both September 6 and 7, and will be a sight to behold for residents and visitors alike.

Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council's portfolio holder for tourism, culture and rural affairs, said: “I am thrilled that the BBMF is returning to the 2024 airshow, even more so as we’re being graced with the presence of the Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster this time.

"I’ll look forward to seeing all three beautifully preserved aircraft take to our skies and perform their displays – a fitting tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our freedom.”

The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight will be held at Ayr shorefront on September 6 and 7.

There will also be a Sunday fun day in Ayr High Street on September 8 to extend the weekend’s festivities.
