A BUSY street in the centre of Ayr has been partly closed for urgent sewer repair works.

Scottish Water has closed a short stretch of South Harbour Street to enable repairs to be carried out on a damaged pipe.

The company says it expects the work to take around five days to complete.

The repairs will be carried out by contractors Clancy.

A diversion is in place via South Harbour Street (B748), Esplanade, Pavilion Road, Alloway Street, Miller Road, A70 onto Station Road, John Street, and left on to the A719.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and local businesses will be open as normal.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: "We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding."
