A kind-hearted pair are set to walk from Kilmarnock to Girvan to raise money for the RNLI.

John Oliver and Robert Green will each walk one half of the 38-mile round trip to raise vital funds for Girvan's lifeboat station.

Donations have already broken the £1,500 barrier, with a month still to go before the big walk on May 5.

John said: "We will both complete a walking distance of 19 miles each. I’m sure you will all agree that this is a very worthwhile charity run by volunteers who risk their lives at sea every time there is a shout.

"We would thank you for taking the time to read this appeal, and if you can donate please do."

A Girvan Lifeboat spokesperson added: "We at Girvan lifeboat are humbled by not only the time and dedication the guys are putting into this but also the generosity of everyone who has sponsored them.

"It really is appreciated."
