A NEW council depot in Girvan has been shortlisted for a regional award for its contribution to South Ayrshire's 'net zero' efforts.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards showcase the most inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.

The super energy efficient building at South Ayrshire Council's Bridge Street depot, which officially opened in December 2023, is in the running for the Public Sector Project award.

The category A+ energy performance certified building provides office space and vital welfare facilities for the area's grounds maintenance, waste management and golf operational staff.

The awards judging process is already underway, with regional events will be held in May and June to announce which shortlisted project will be put forward as a finalist.

Councillor Martin Kilbride, SAC's portfolio holder for buildings, housing and environment, said: "The Bridge Street depot project was the first of its type for the council.

"It's an impressive project that has highlighted the council's commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

"Our professional design services team pulled out all the stops on this project so it's fantastic to see their innovation, hard work, and determination recognised by way of being shortlisted in the RICS regional awards."
